Thornbridge Brewery celebrates 10 years of Warp Films with a birthday beer

Thornbridge Brewery, based in Bakewell, has created a special beer this month in honour of the 10th birthday of Sheffield production company, Warp Films.

The 4.5% ABV ‘This is England’ ale is currently available on tap at the Showroom Cinema and at Thornbridge Brewery pubs in Sheffield.
Simon Webster, Chief Operating Officer at Thornbridge Brewery, said:  “We were invited to get involved by Warp and they asked us if we would brew a special beer for them to celebrate the 10 year anniversary.
“It’s fantastic to be asked to be involved and we were all honoured as we are all big fans of Warp.
“The inspiration for the beer was ‘This is England’ - we brewed the beer using all English Malts and bags of English Hops.
“The beer is in the style of an English Pale Ale but is heavily hopped – English hops tend to be more delicate than their New World cousins so we had to use lots of them.”
Mark Herbert, CEO of Warp Films, speaking about the collaboration said: “We are quite an independent company and we were trying to think of ways to promote Warp10. And so we thought about the local brewery.
“We approached them and they said, ‘Yeah, we’ll do a Warp10 beer’. We thought that was great because how many people notice the pumps!”
The creation of the beer, which is described as “a great showcase for English fruity hops at their best” with a “long, dry bitter finish”, is one of a number of events this month to celebrate the 10th birthday of Warp Films.
A Warp Films retrospective season is currently running at the Showroom Cinema alongside a Pete McKee Warp Film posters exhibition. The celebrations will culminate with a night of music and film at Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Rotherham on November 17th.
